In memory of Peter (“Pete”) August Rosskamp, his sister, Jo Edda Rosskamp McDowell, has generously pledged up to $25,000 in a matching donation to the Hooley Plunge. The challenge grant will apply to the first $25,000 raised by Hooley Plunge participants. Pete passed away after a sudden illness on August 24, 2023.
Pete was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1971. He then attended Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State College. He was employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Co. before joining the US Navy, where he served for twenty years, with overseas duty as a submariner and, later, as a civilian naval recruiter. He was then employed as a counselor for the State of Maryland until his retirement, a position which gave him an opportunity to assist disabled individuals in the Cumberland community. In retirement, Pete was a devoted son to his mother, Joan B. Rosskamp, a Cumberland resident, who celebrated her 95th birthday on January 29, 2024.
